SAS, under two subcontracts, provides Waste Engineers, Physicists, Transportation Specialists, and Designers to N3B. We are actively recruiting for Facility, Electrical, Mechanical, Systems, and other disciplines of Engineers, and continually respond to requests for other professional services.
SAS provided senior consultancy in support of the Waste Management organization, including characterization support, schedule development and process streamlining. SAS Management has supported three long-term contracts in the last 12 years that included: Non-destructive Assay and Real Time Radiography Project Mobilization, Execution and Demobilization for characterization of nearly 1000 containers of legacy waste; Chemical Engineers providing characterization support and management of the Neptunium Treatment Project, Waste Engineers dedicated to interface with field operations and characterization throughout the site, and waste samplers. We also assisted with the recovery post-missed-milestone with Project Management and Integration of Waste Management and Transportation and Project Controls, to successfully dispose of PBI volume.
SAS Personnel provided support to the FBP baseline development, overseeing the waste management groups efforts and interface with site projects. This effort required development of more than 70 works scopes, associated schedules, and estimates based on due diligence. Our team included SMEs in nuclear safety, transportation, radiation safety, waste characterization and project management. SAS personnel developed the ROM for disposition of the remaining USEC operations waste that resulted in the final termination of USEC's NRC License. SAS staff also supported the initial development of the QSNDA program, including development of a detailed schedule for execution, and negotiations with DOE-PPPO as we developed this first-of-its-kind program for Quality Systems for Non Destructive Assay. The SAS team also provided personnel in NDA supervision, waste field engineers, transportation specialists, and Project Engineers.
SAS Management provided critical SMEs engaging in extensive research and characterization of waste, guiding labor-intensive identification and comparison of multiple waste streams against TSDF WACs using historical HMSI data and other sources.
SAS Management provided waste certification personnel, field engineers, project engineers, and radiological control technicians under the BJC and UCOR contracts. Our staff supported the K-25 and K-27 D&D Projects, the 1065 Warehouse Facility, the TSCA Incinerator, and various other projects requiring RCT support.
